Eddie Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” Guitar Heads to Auction

Few guitars are as iconic and eye-catching as the one played by Eddie Van Halen in his “Hot for Teacher” music video. Now, you can own and play it, too.

Sotheby’s is auctioning off the guitar, a truly unique piece of music history. The Kramer CO176 guitar is built using poplar wood and features the striking white-and-black-striped red body that first caught your eye in the music video.

What makes it truly special are the screw holes on the back where he mounted his first-ever flip-up rest, a device he created and patented that allowed him to play the guitar vertically as well as horizontally.

As if the guitar itself wasn’t incentive enough, winners of the auction will also receive the white gloves and straight jacket Van Halen used during the music video’s filming, as well as a photograph signed by the legend himself. Music lovers, get those bids ready. Bidding closes on April 18.
