The author of American Psycho is back, and The Shards promises to be no less chilling and gripping.
The story follows the author on a (semi-autobiographical) journey through L.A. in the 1980s, when a serial killer stalks the city and terror runs rampant in the dark. As always, Ellis masterfully blurs the line between the fantastical and real, the paranoid and terrifying, to create a novel that deals with the violence of a serial killer while also somehow touching on very real issues germane to the modern reader.
Though the novel is packed with gore, it’s far from gratuitous, but instead is used to highlight grim truths about L.A. society during the 80s. It’s the perfect blend of horror and thriller that will keep you reading well into the night.
