Sotheby’s is Selling the First Movie Poster Ever Made

Sotheby’s in London is selling 164 rare, original film posters including one that can lay claim to be the world’s first—an advertisement for the culture-shifting screening of the first film ever by the Lumiere Brothers from 1895. Created by French artist Henri Brispot, it depicts a throng of people waiting to see the first motion picture. 163 other posters, including James Bond posters and posters for films including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars and King Kong will all go to the highest bidder.
