Coming in somewhere between the Segway and the still-elusive Hoverboard, the Onewheel is a sort of electric skateboard unicycle. Made of billet aluminum with maple footboards and rolling on one rubber tire, it’ll hit speeds of 12mph with a range of 4-6 miles on a single 20-minute quick charge.
In addition to being huge (65- & 85-inches) and offering a ridiculously sharp 4K display, the new, memorably-named XBR-950B TVs from Sony have a new feature called Direct LED Dimming, a function that automatically adjusts picture contrast for maximum visual impact.
Unveiled this week in Detroit, Porsche’s 2014 911 Targa features the same 350-horse flat six found in other models, as well as that same snappy gearbox – but the Targa, true to its heritage, is of course the drop top variant. This year the roof gets popped & dropped mechanically & stows under the rear glass. The addition of the silver “Targa bar” marks a return to the Targa’s original form.
At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Chevy unveiled the new 2015 Z06 Corvette. Just 6 months ago, Sony’s most affordable 4K camcorder cost 4500 bucks. But this week at CES, they unveiled a more compact consumer 4K camcorder that’s less than half the price. This 14MP camera features SteadyShot image stabilization, Zeiss optics and captures video at 4K/30p, a quality far exceeding HD resolution.
If we said this was an Italian replica of the bed from the outer space sex scene in the 1979 Bond film Moonraker, you’d believe us. Too bad there wasn’t one. But if there was, this should’ve been the bed. If features shades that raise & lower for darkness on demand, as well as a built in PC, reading lights, drop down HD display, surround sound & more.
No sense destroying the design of your den by slapping a 4k projector on the ceiling when you can just put it next to the wall. It uses lasers to project a 4K display on the wall anywhere from 66- to 147-inches across & features 4 HDMI ports in the back for plugging in all your little dongles and whatnot. Is this the future of television projection?
Nothing says “I’m serious about this” like a custom-made, boutique roadbike. And in terms of technology, The Carby Road is legit: carbon frame & fork plus DT Swiss wheels & an Sram Red 22 group make it an easy choice for the hardcore cyclist. The spillover coolguy points that the Deus nameplate brings are an extra bonus.
It’s multifunctional and saves space. The Podpad is a wall-mounted desk and storage unit that folds open for use as a workspace & holds your laptop, mail & desk junk plus it also houses a built-in sound system & charging station.
