The newest version of Audi’s flagship R8 model is the LMX, & it features laser high beams. Really. Lasers. In the headlights. This technology increases the headlight range substantially, which comes in handy when you’re ripping along the Autobahn at night doing 198MPH.
Since the British Morgan Plus 8 was introduced back in the late 60s, it has garnered a cult-like following, especially in the U.S. The main reason, it’s a little, lightweight car with a big, bad V8. Kind of a ’roided-up go kart. The new Plus 8 Speedster is the latest variant, packed with a 367 hp, 4.8-liter BMW V8 engine feeding into a 6-speed manual or ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox. With a top speed of 148MPH and custom interior & performance options galore, this classic coupe continues Morgan’s tradition of blending old school style with modern performance.
California’s Rezvani Motors builds bespoke supercars for use on the road or the track. The Beast is their latest creation. This low, wide 2-seater features a carbon fiber body and will be available this summer with your choice of a 315 or 500 horsepower engine.
The Trident Iceni is British. It’s the world’s fastest and most fuel-efficient diesel sports car. 395 horsepower, 700 pound-feet of torque and a top speed of 190 MPH. And with the optional Trackpack performance upgrade, the Iceni is even more powerful than a Corvette Z06. It will run for 2000 miles on a single tank of diesel. Or BioDiesel. It will be available in the U.S. early 2015.
Despite all the shiny, snorkel-equipped SUVs you see on the freeways, surprisingly few ever even get dirty, let alone cross a body of water larger than a puddle. That’s not the case with this amphibious 4X4 from Dutch off-roaders Amfibious Transport. This waterhog is built for performance on land as well as water built around the proven Toyota Land Cruiser body & motor. It drives just like you’d expect on land but cruises along steadily at 8-MPH on the water, no matter how deep it gets.
This week at the New York Auto Show, Audi unveils their upgraded RS7. The Dynamic Edition is a pumped up version of the already sporty sedan that will feature a more powerful 560-horse twin-turbo motor, Dynamic Ride Control suspension, plus red brake calipers & black valcona honeycomb-stitched leather sport seats with crimson red seatbelts.
Since the 1 percent is really only 1 percent, all the luxury car brands are working out new ways to get more people into their cars. Aston Martin came up with the V8 Vantage, a 430-HP luxury coupe (also available as a roadster) aimed at the U.S. market. Somehow, Aston has priced this awe-inspiring 190-MPH beast below $100 grand. $99K to be exact.
Long before the infamous drunk cheeseburger video, hairy-chested 80s TV actor turned German pop music heart-throb David Hasselhoff drove a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am on the short-lived crime series Knight Rider. The car’s name was KITT and now a detailed, fan-created version is up for auction. In addition to the V8 boasting 13MPG, it’s got an audio system programmed to say 4000 phrases from the show.
Only a man with a massive ego, like Rick Ross level, would name a car company after himself. Apparently David Brown is that guy. He created a new luxury car brand that draws from the best of the classic 60s sport cars and remixes them into a contemporary vehicle. In their Speedback GT you see a bit of Thunderbird/Aston Martin in the front end, a bit of Jaguar from the side, & decide for yourself on the rear-end. Under the hood, there’s a supercharged V8.
Collecting military memorabilia seems about as exciting as philately unless the piece you’re about to buy is a World War II tank fitted with a Howitzer. To be offered on Saturday, July 12, 2014.
