Ali Collects Intimate Images of a Legend
 

In June, 1963, on assignment from Sports Illustrated, peerless portrait photographer Steve Schapiro traveled to Louisville to spend some time with Cassius Clay, the young Olympic champion boxer who even then was well on his way to becoming Muhammad Ali. The two spent five days together, with Schapiro gaining intimate access to this legend-in-the-making. Ali is a collection of the photographers best images—many of which have never been published before.
